Be more productive and set up your workspace for efficiency | Tips and Tricks to be more productive
Having your workspace set up properly is important in being efficient in your work. Since I've been spending a lot of time at my CNC machine, I've found several things that needed to be organized in order to be more efficient. This video is a bit of a tour of my cnc workcenter. I've made several improvements, and want to show some of the things I've done to make that area more efficient. Hopefully you can take some of these ideas and implement some of these ideas in your shop.

Multiscale Cigar Box Guitar! | Rebuilding a previous Guitar Build
Просмотров 49314 дней назад
I originally built this Cigar Box Guitar several years ago, but due to a design error I could never really play this instrument. I removed too much material on the neck and it was very unstable. I decided to build an entirely new neck for this guitar. This time it will be much more stable and I'll be able to play it. I decided to try out some new techniques I've been learning and make a multisc...

    So, I decided to have a crack at designing my own, to fit my router. Made some changes, pivot slots in from the top, rather than hangs from elastic, which inverts the radii of the profile wheels (lower wheel radius for greater cut and vice-versa), but allows for working in even passes from one side of the neck, around to the other. I can also 3D print my radius wheels, making for a more mathematically precise curve transition. I haven't even built the design yet and I LOVE this tool. My estimate is less than AU$100 (~US$67) from go to woh-uo there, it's done. Less for me because I already have the necessary bearings for the profile wheels to run on and I'll only need a single 1200x600z12mm sheet of structural ply to build it. All of it other than the screws bolts and profile wheels. Thank you for showing me the way to realise a lifelong dream!

    One of the biggest ripoffs of the gas industry is the fact that filling stations have mixers on site to blend ethanol with unleaded gas and charge less per gallon than fuel that is not bended at all. I have used nonethanol fuel on all small engines I own with no problems whatsoever.

    You are 100% correct!!! The "not a true luthier" crowd are nothing more than snobs. It's not the tool, it's the craftsman using it. If a builder uses a CNC and builds a beautiful string instrument, they're a luthier. If they use nothing but bone glue and a pocket knife and it's a beautiful instrument, they're a luthier. I stand with you, dude. How playable? Tone? They're the only measures of luthiery.

    Been there. The valve side of rim needs to be supported so that side bead can ‘seat’ where it belongs. Then you are pushing the other bead down against the rim instead of pulling the rim up and fighting the tire sidewall width.

    Hi! Thank you for very useful video and great tips - immediate subscription! I tried to do something similar, but something went a bit off, so I’m kindly asking you for an advice: I have a wooden IKEA table. Its top made of several wooden blocks, so it’s not a single sheet of wood. I dyed it using water-based dye, and covered it with the first coat of polyurethane lacquer. The thing is that after applying the first coat I can see that the surface gone patchy - some wooden blocks are glossy and smooth, and some - dull and a bit rough to the touch, where the wood absorbed the lacquer. I was going to use fine sandpaper to even the surface after the first coat of lacquer. But now I’m a bit confused as I don’t know if I could damage the dye layer on the dull patches and expose the wood, as it is obviously very thin. What would you suggest to do in this case? I was going to do at least three coats of lacquer with sanding in between.

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop 2 дня назад

      As long as you sand very lightly, just enough to remove the high spots you should be ok. Even if you don't get it totally smooth, you can apply the next coat. If it was me, I'd probably apply another coat before sanding. This will give you a little more finish on top of the dye. Then sand lightly between coats until it's smooth. It may take more than 3 coats.

      @@homebuiltshop Today I lighly sanded the first coat of poly with 700 grit sandpaper on the block, and fortunately the thickness of the layer allowed me not to damage the stain layer. After that I put on the second layer of poly, this time diluted with mineral spirit at 3 to 1 ratio. It worked very well. So I think I'll continue this routine, as the main danger thankfully is behind.

    I've been using E85 in my turbocharged 4-banger for over 15 years. I can tune for more horsepower and the engine runs cooler. It's also cheaper than 105-octane gasoline. E10/E15 is garbage. Best to stick with REAL gasoline at those levels.

    Turns out that if you use mineral oil instead of tung oil, you don't need any solvent and the material is not stiff at all. The material is still burn resistant and very durable, let alone 100% waterproof. This has an additional benefit of not wearing off because it is so pliable. Don't use too much mineral oil so that there is not any oily residue. It is one bottle of mineral oil to two packs of wax.

    I've never been into pickup swapping but I had a pair of gibson 57 classics sitting around. I got a little reckless and widened my carvin h2t's pickup holes with a Dremel. The gibsons are still mounted using the plastic pieces and are adjustable but I was worried that they were too snug against the body now.... possibly killing sustain/resonance. It's a chambered guitar. I'm rewiring it today with new electronics. It seems fine. Chime in if I'm neutering my guitar this way please.

In other words, it fits together very well and calculations are easy because it is decimal. This is a big advantage for use in the home, education, industry and science.

    It has nothing to do with energy density. Who cares if you get more mpg when E85 is cheaper? At 105 octane, ethanol is 20% cheaper than super, and gets 10% less MPG, a +10% net gain by cost reduction. It's not MPG but MP$. Let us know when you figure this out. Also, check out the power that turbo DI cars make on E85, it's like 100hp more than gasoline, yup. Do some research bro, G00gle APR E85, lol. One more thing, there's no rubber fuel lines in modern cars, duh.

  • @TheLookingOne

    Interesting approach - bring out the bad in order to highlight the good. Hey Jeff, does it make sense to screw the neck to the TOP panel of a hinged cigar box, and flip open the bottom of the box in order to access the inside of the body? It seems that would require looser openings in the box bottom around the neck - would that cause issues? If so, what about removing the hinges and screw the bottom onto the face of the cigar box?

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop 5 дней назад

      Thanks. You're correct, if you wanted the bottom to open, there would need to be more space at the joint for the neck. I don't think it would cause any negative consequences but I feel it may look unsightly. I like to keep the gaps to a minimum. Now removing the hinges altogether would be a nice solution and have the back secured with screws. My only issue with that is again unsightly holes or gaps where the hinges were. If that's not a concern, that would be a great way to go. Great ideas.

    • @TheLookingOne
      @TheLookingOne 4 дня назад

      @@homebuiltshop Yeah. I plan to pop out the wire in the hinges, but keep the hinge plates as-is.Then use wood blocks glued to the top corners. These blocks will have recessed t-nuts to receive the long screw from the back through to the front. So the bottom slides straight on and then is screwed on.

    50 miles more on a tank of gas? How do you know? Did you deliberately run your tank dry? I am admittedly odd in doing this, but I keep a gas book and use that to populate a spreadsheet that calculates mpg, cost per mile, etc. I did indeed do my own test and ran on ethanol free gas for a few fill-ups until I was able to identify the benefit. My mpg did indeed go up but not enough to justify paying an extra dollar per gallon. I do, however, use ethanol free in my lawn mower. The added efficiency means fewer trips to the gas station with a gas can in the car (a definite safety risk) and the stability of the fuel over the winter means less likelihood of a gummed up anything the following spring. Summary: I like ethanol free but unfortunately the math doesn’t justify using it exclusively in my car.

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop 5 дней назад

      You did some great studies on this. I must say that I haven't been using the Ethanol Free lately in the car either, due to the cost. I do however, always run it in the lawn mowers and small engines for exactly the reason you mentioned. If I don't run the tank dry for the winter, it will be just fine in the spring.

    I run E30, but that is in a tuned turbo car. Ethanol boosts octane, and E10/15 will run fine in any car. At that percentage there is minimal hit to MPG on a modern car. DON"T RUN ethanol gas in anything with a carburetor or 2-cycle mixes, and worse anything that sits for long periods of time w/o running.

  • @genericdude6551
    @genericdude6551 11 дней назад

    The ethanol free stations around here are 91 octane which means they cost more. I use that gas in my lawn mower and snow blower because I've had a lot of trouble with E10 gas. Also, if a common hose is used to dispense ethanol and non-ethanol gas, you will need to run the first gallon into your vehicle to insure that you fill your gas can with non-ethanol gas.
